However, despite the overall budgetary constraints, the bill reaffirms the United States’ commitment to supporting crucial allies such as Taiwan, Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. The legislation also underscores a strategic focus on addressing challenges presented by nations like China and Iran, along with other potential adversaries.
A notable directive within the bill mandates the U.S. Secretary of State, working in conjunction with the Secretary of Defense, to expedite the delivery of defense equipment and services to Taiwan. Further emphasizing this support, the bill allocates a minimum of US$4 million for the Global Cooperation and Training Framework. This program is executed through the American Institute in Taiwan, aiming to enhance cooperative initiatives.
Moreover, the legislation includes a stipulation that prevents the use of allocated funds for the creation or display of maps that inaccurately depict Taiwan’s territorial boundaries or its governing system.
